STAFF HANDBOOK

The Staff Handbook is a familiar document to HR professionals, not least because it needs regular
updating to reflect changes in employment law and company policy. Frequently the Handbook
will be expressly incorporated into employees' contracts.

The Staff Handbook drafted by one of our barristers will include all clauses needed to comply
with current legislation. It will detail the Grievance, Disciplinary, and Appeals procedures. We are
able to tailor the Handbook so that the Handbook: says
where the definitive, up to date version will be kept and who is responsible for it; and
includes details of any examples of misconduct specific to your business  plus:
family friendly policies (maternity and paternity), use of company assets
(computers, email and phones), data protection, sickness and absence, flexible
working, security, whistle-blowing and much more.

Most employers specifically state in the contract of employment, or the written statement of particulars of
employment, that the rules apply, then that is an express term of employment and the rules and content
of the handbook form contractual terms.  This means that the employer, as well as the employee,
is required to observe the rules; for example, in implementing an equal opportunities policy or grievance
and disciplinary proceedings.
